A Subtropical Hideaway in New Farm

Award winner: Landscape Queensland Construction Excellence Awards 2017

The Brief
We were engaged to construct a contemporary garden design befitting a highly architectural modern home. Impeccable attention to detail was needed to maximise every inch of space in this compact inner-city block.

Our Design Response
With minimal available garden space, our team managed to create an abundance of outdoor recreational areas. Subtropical plants and lush green foliage provide plenty of privacy, while adding to a rich tapestry of textures, colours and shapes. There are the bold lines of concrete steel, raw edges of decomposed granite, geometric angles of rendered cement blocks and the zigzagging stone pavers that frame the soft green lawn. It’s this contrast and layering of materials that creates an illusion of space. The ground floor internal living opens up to a central courtyard and private external terrace. Completing the garden is a cosy sunken firepit to warm those cool Winter nights, and a bespoke turtle pond and ambient water feature.
