The Brief
Our client engaged us to design and build an entry befitting a contemporary new build. The challenge was to reflect the house architecture – a bold, industrial aesthetic with striking, bold shapes and asymmetrical formats.
Our Design Response
We set about creating an impressive sense of scale with a grand arbor; a dramatic structure to add vertical balance. To create an intriguing journey to the front door, we crafted a set of offset floating concrete stairs. We used geometric shapes to reference the house architecture, and added a circular penetration in the front landing to add further scale and harmonise the hard structures.
As a front entry with a lot of foot traffic, durability is key. To achieve this, we built the stairs using reinforced concrete, galvanised steel, hardwood timbers and a hardy planting palette.
Overall, the result is a striking display of engineering excellence, scale and balance.
